In its first two days of release, the console sold around 600,000 units in regions such as Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Africa, and the Middle East. PS3 sold about 81,639 systems in its first 24 hours during its release in Japan. Lastly, Japan was the last country to ban its production on 29th May 2017. Its production in North America also came to a close in October of 2016. The shipments to Australia and Europe came to a close around March of 2016. But its production was still continuing in other parts of the world. After the release of the PlayStation 4 in 2013, the production of PS3 in New Zealand stopped by 29th September 2015.

Its slow start in sales improved after the introduction of the slim version. It started gaining more positive reception as time passed. Its processor’s architecture was complex, but the console’s untapped potential and Blu-ray features received praises. The 60GB and 20GB models were retailing for $599 and $499, respectively. The console garnered mixed reviews when it first came out because of its expensive price tag.

However, in 2012, another super slim version was released, where the console was refined and redesigned. The PS3 doesn’t possess the hardware ability for running PS2 games. There is also a slight start-up type of change in its software. It is lighter than the actual original version and also comes with a marketing design and redesigned logo. A slim version of the PS3 was released back on 9th September 2009. It does so via its remote type of connectivity with PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable. The PS3 is also the first console that supported a wireless controller. This console was the first from its series to incorporate services of social gaming, and that includes the PS Network. The PS3 is the first-ever console to utilize Blu-Ray Disc as its main storage medium. From there, it got released in places like North America, Australia, and Europe. It was released on 11th November of 2006 back in Japan. This console is the successor of PS2 or PlayStation 2. The PlayStation 3 consists of a video game console that is created and sold by Sony.
